About the Position:
The School of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications from qualified candidates for a tenure- track
appointment in actuarial science at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2021.
Candidates will have a PhD in Actuarial Science (or related area), have professional credentials from the
Society of Actuaries (or equivalent body) and be engaged in research in financial mathematics and/or
analytics as it pertains to risk. The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Undertake research in the area of actuarial science, interacting with students and industry.
• Develop a strong externally-funded research program.
• Develop and promote the School’s Concentration in Actuarial Science within the B. Math. Honours Statistics program.
• Supervise students, as well as develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
• Interact with members of the actuarial profession to develop and promote actuarial science at Carleton.

Qualifications:

• The position requires a PhD in Actuarial Science (or related area).
• The successful candidate will exhibit strong potential for innovative and scholarly research in actuarial science and evidence of potential for independent research
• Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence
• Professional credentials in actuarial science are required (e.g. Associate or Fellow of SOA or equivalent).
• Actuarial work experience is desirable.
