BIPOC Executive Search is currently inviting nominations and applications for four board member positions for one of its clients on their inaugural Board of Directors. This opportunity will resonate most with motivated individuals who are committed to improving health outcomes for all and who want to work with a company that has a strong social purpose, is inextricably linked with business, healthcare providers, communities, and individuals across Canada.

During this one-year term, the director will be responsible for oversight of the organization and will be accountable to shareholders—the person will also show demonstrated commitment to the organization’s mission, policies, and values. Ideal candidates will have a passion for work in the financial services sector, as well as current and/or past board experience. Candidates should exhibit strong leadership qualities and be keen to support the health and longevity of the organization.

Board directors will contribute to the governance role of the Board through actively contributing specific expertise, skills, and attributes; they will provide wise counsel, engage in strategic discussions— with a willingness to express dissenting opinions in a constructive manner— as well as interpret and understand financial statements, all the while fostering independent thinking and acting objectively to resolve challenging issues. Overall, a director will need to have the ability to consider and reconcile many different perspectives and viewpoints.

 

Candidates will bring diverse perspectives to the Board gained through: Financial Leadership, Risk Management, Industry Expertise, Advanced (Modern) Technology, and ESG, as well as other pertinent skills.

Financial Leadership: specific actuarial experience gained in the life insurance industry: Appointed Actuary or Partners in professional services with experience in the actuarial field

Financial Leadership/Risk Management: familiarity with managing investments in a regulated insurance company: Chief Investment Officer or Partner in professional services with experience in institutional investing in the insurance industry

Industry Expertise: competence in the insurance or healthcare industries, either in an established company or start up experience: C-suite, Co/Founder in the insurtech, health tech, insurance or healthcare industry

Advanced (Modern) Technology: experience leading digital transformation or starting a business and scaling successfully: Chief Technology Officer/ Chief Information Officer/Chief Transformation Officer, Co/Founder

ESG: experience working or serving in corporate and NFP organization or Board: desired board experience working with ESG.

Other pertinent skills could include: corporate strategy, succession planning, and talent management; regulatory, compliance, and legal as well as corporate governance
