As the Manager - Underwriting - Major Groups - Group and Business Insurance you will be responsible for the operational activities of a team of group insurance underwriters. You will provide technical underwriting and actuarial expertise and advice to the team during the execution of projects and mandates as assigned.

 

General Information on the Position

The successful candidate must possess the following:

  • In-depth knowledge regarding underwriting and actuarial relative to the business sector, including best practices and standard practices within the sector
  • Tact in dealing with others, adapt your approach based on the stakeholders involved, support teamwork and cohesion between teams

 

Main responsibilities

  • Provide technical and strategic mentoring to underwriters in the team to develop their expertise and ensure they apply the appropriate ratemaking standards
  • Be responsible for group underwriting tasks (quotes, renewals, financial agreements) for a portfolio of major groups, in the over 50 lives market in mostly Ontario and Western province
  • Develop, implement and track the teams action plan in alignment with the organization's strategic objectives
  • Promote and encourage change management, talent attraction & retention, skills development, mobilization, and diversity, consistent with the organization's values
  • Assist in the development of strategies related to the Underwriting teams service offer across the country and ensure entrusted projects are carried out so as to maximize targeted business results (growth, retention, profitability, operating costs) and ensure client satisfaction
  • Support the administrative unit's business plan by successfully managing individual and team performance
  • Continuously improve the management of entrusted processes
  • Promote the cooperative values of Desjardins Group
  • Represent the organization, participate in industry initiative forum to maintain relevant expertise.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial sciences or in a related field
  • A minimum of 9 years of relevant experience, including 2 years in management
  • Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered.
  • The Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and Fellow, Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) designation (major asset)

 

Specific knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of the group benefits insurance market
  • Proficient speaker, advanced knowledge of French (an asset)
  • Proficient speaker, advanced knowledge of English
